There are many ways to ensure that your steel strapping tool lives a full and healthy life. Of course the variety of tool types will require different maintenance, but here are some of the most important points to keep in mind.
1.READ THE MANUAL!
Many of the tools that come to our repair shop are damaged because of misuse. It is important to understand how to use the tool yourself and be able to train your workers properly on how to use the tool so that it lasts. You'll save a bundle if you just read through the manual first.
2.Regularly add oil to the air motor on your pneumatic tools.
Changing the oil WEEKLY will ensure that you get the most out of your tool.
3.Make sure that the tool you're using is appropriate of the application.
If you generally need to bundle steel piping, don't use a tool that is specified for flat surfaced packages only.
4.Use the correct strap.
Though many steel strapping tools function with a range of strap widths and thicknesses, it is important that the strap doesn't fall outside the range of the tool. The silent killer is using the wrong thickness. If the strap is thicker that the tool can handle, there is a good chance that the tools will be degraded dramatically. Additionally, the joint strength is significantly reduced when the strap is out of the range of the tool, which is potentially hazardous to the user.
